I’m not sure I can post on this issue.
It’s not a bug, but I’m trying to load 8.8G file to software and convert 1.8G, which is better than I expected.
But, It’s hard to work with this file.
I rotate the point cloud on Sequoia and I need to wait until rotating point clouds.
I’m just wondering is there workable size? not loading size or there is some setting to help to navigate point clouds.
Thank you for the post!
Have you converted the large PTS file to the .sprt format? That option is available from File > Convert Point Files. The loading of .sprt is intended to support loading very large point files.
There can be issue loading large files when there is not enough GPU ram to display the currently requested points. You can improve this by loading a lower percentage of points. The SPRT file loading does this for you automatically adjusting the actual number of displayed points.
The meshing will load all the points to generate the mesh. At the moment, that means you will need to have enough ram for the source points and the resulting mesh. Before we release, SQ will mesh any size of point clouds without this memory requirement. Not sure of a timeline for this yet, but this will happen in early 2015.
We will be dropping a new build today that will greatly improve the creation, and use of .sprt files today so we recommend trying it.
Can you share the machine specs that you are using? It would be great to understand if we properly incorporating your machines spec in how we are building our point data pipeline.
