Hi Bobo,
every time I try to load a Field Magma object, 3dsMax Design 2014 crushes.
I’m using StokeMX_2.0.8.55168_x64
I attach the error message.
I have uninstalled all the thinkbox softwares and re-installed them.
I receive always the crush message and Max shuts down.
The strange is that on my notebook every things works well…
(Windows 7 pro on both the computers)
My notebook was buyed in USA with English operating system.
My workstation has an italian windows 7 pro operating system.
The difference between the two installation is the Installation path of 3dsMax.
On my workstation is:
E:\programmi64\3ds Max Design 2014
and thinkbox path is:
C:\Program Files\Thinkbox
the plugin .ini contain these strings:
[Help]
mental ray Help=http://www.autodesk.com/mentalray-help-2014-enu
[Directories]
Civil View Plugins=E:\programmi64\3ds Max Design 2014\stdplugs(CivilViewIO)
Krakatoa=C:\Program Files\Thinkbox\Krakatoa MX\3dsMax2013
Stoke MX=C:\Program Files\Thinkbox\Stoke MX\3dsMax2013
XMeshSaver-MX=C:\Program Files\Thinkbox\XMeshSaver MX\3dsMax2013\x64
XMeshLoader-MX=C:\Program Files\Thinkbox\XMeshLoader MX\3dsMax2013\x64
Frost=C:\Program Files\Thinkbox\FrostMX\3dsMax2013\x64
;=;
On my notebook
C:\Program Files\3ds Max Design 2014
and thinkbox path is:
C:\Program Files\Thinkbox
and the plugin.ini is identical to that of the workstation.
Ciao Fabio!
The closest thing to mind right now is to assume the Italian Windows OS has something to do with it, because otherwise I don’t see what else could be wrong. On top of that the screenshot you supplied shows the UI is actually created, so the script itself has been run correctly.
I will pass the dumpdata you emailed me to the Stoke developer to take a look.
Thank you for the very well written error report! I wish everybody would provide as much detailed info when reporting bugs!
Hi Bobo,
thanks for your reply.
About the win 7 pro in Italian, I’m not sure, because today I tried on my old workstation, where the path of 3dsMax was the usual:
C:\Program Files\Autodesk\3ds Max Design 2014, gave to me a good result.
Magma Field works correctly.
I think about a system variable problem.
Thanks again,
Fabio
I don’t believe it is a path problem. All components have been loaded correctly (your MAXScript Listener would be full of errors otherwise, but I can still see the Welcome To MAXScript line in the Min Listener, so everything is cool). Our plugins RARELY crash hard like this - we either show error messages, or there is a MAXScript error. There is something deeper somewhere at the C++ level. Only the developer will be able to figure it out. I suspect it is not a simple setting you can change yourself.
Also, our plugins don’t care where they are installed, as long as the folder structure is the same and the plugin.ini points at the folder with the DLO.
Plus Field Magma is a little brother of Field Sim, and I would rather expect Field Sim to fail. But Field Magma is “live” while Field Sim needs to simulate data first before showing it. So it could be very well a Nitrous problem at the first attempt to redraw the viewport.
Btw, do your other systems also run Max Design? Can we exclude the “Design” part from the possible causes (while “Entertainment” and “Design” editions are supposed to be binarily-compatible, you never know what the exact settings of viewports and defaults could cause…)
Ok,
I understand and wait…
I’ll use the old workstation to study.
It is 10 time slower but It works.
Thanks again, Fabio
