Max 2014 render problem

Hi,

Just trying a sandbox install of Deadline6 with Max 2014

I set up a scene with a teapot with Vray and submitted it.

It never manages to render a frame. Here is the tail end of the error log.
I don’t recognise this, I presume it is new stuff to do with 6.

Any ideas?

Just as a followup.

That \lan\ folder is missing on my max install.

I used the multi-languge install.

The only similar file I can find is nrres.dat in my maxroot.

Can you post the full error report? That part of the log is just backburner debug logging, so it may or may not be relevant.

Also, can you check if you’re upgraded to the latest backburner version on your render machines?

Thanks!

  • Ryan

Sorry about that.

Here is the full log.
Not sure about the backburner thing - we just installed the shipping version of 2014 on the render box. I would have thought that would have included the latest BB?

Thanks! This part of the error is typically due to a backburner version mismatch. Installing the latest backburner usually fixes this.

I’m going to install a fresh 2014 install to see if I can reproduce. I’m also uninstalling backburner first to confirm that it gets installed along with Max 2014.

By any chance did you install the Entertainment suite? I only ask because I found this:
forums.autodesk.com/t5/Installat … -p/3873330

Cheers,

  • Ryan

Just an update. I tested with a clean 3dsmax 2014 install (as well as a fresh backburner 2014 install), and it worked fine. So it would appear to be an issue with the backburner install on your end. Maybe try uinstalling it and reinstalling it from the 3dsmax 2014 installer to see if that helps.

Cheers,

  • Ryan

Thanks Ryan,

We installed from a network deployment and the guy who made it left out BB. We had presumed that because we had deadline, we didn’t need BB.

Sorted!

R

Great! In RC2, we’ll be adding some max log checking in this case to detect this specific error, and throw the appropriate “install or upgrade backburner” error to make it more clear what the problem is.

Cheers,

  • Ryan

we have the same problem here because we also didn’t install BB with the deployment, does that mean we need install BB?

Yes. Backburner installs the necessary tools required for network rendering, so it needs to be installed to render with Deadline.
