max.log file

i keep getting this error every now and again across most of the farm…

repository and slaves all have latest sp1 patch.

0: INFO: 100.0% Computing Final Gather Points
---- November 20 2008 – 08:20 AM ----
Scheduler Thread - Render Thread 0 threw an error:
Scheduler Thread - Exception during render: An error occurred in RenderTasks(): RenderTask: Unexpected exception (The process cannot access the file ‘C:\Documents and Settings\render.PICASSO3D\Local Settings\Application Data\Autodesk\3dsmax\2009 - 32bit\enu\Network\Max.log’ because it is being used by another process.) (Deadline.Plugins.ScriptPlugin+FailRenderException) (Deadline.Plugins.RenderPluginException)

at Deadline.Plugins.ScriptPlugin.RenderTasks(Int32 startFrame, Int32 endFrame, String& outMessage)

This is a known issue, and in the next release of Deadline, we will no longer be failing the job when the Max.log file is locked. Sorry for the inconvenience.

if i was to put the beta software onto the node would this fix the problem?

Upping the concurrent tasks for a 3ds max 2009 job is causing hundreds of errors about access the max.log file.

Surely this is a local node issue so you’d only need the beta on that single node as its nothing to do with the rest of the farm or the repository right?

You could try this. Note though that if you have Automatic Updates enabled in the Repository Options under the Launcher settings, and you start the Slave through the Launcher or the Start Menu on the node running 3.1, it will check the repository and “Update” the node’s binaries with those of the repository. If you run the Slave directly from the Deadline bin folder, this won’t be an issue.

As far as we know, there shouldn’t be any compatibility issues between 3.0 and 3.1, so the node running 3.1 should be able to render jobs without any problems.
