Max script debugger error in 3dsmax 2016 SP3

Hi i receive this error MAXScript-Debugger when the animators use the 3dscmd submission from 3ds max 2016 in german language.
I opened the 3dscmd submision script and i notice at line 137: # Ignore 3dsMax MAXScript Debugger Popup (ENU, JAP, KOR, CHS,)
self.AddPopupIgnorer( “MAXScript .*” ) the german language is not included.When i use english language the workstation renders ok.

I though of adding DE in the 3dscmd submission script ? any info would be helpful

Hi,
On this line in your 3dsCmd.py and 3dsmax.py files, locate the line:

self.AddPopupIgnorer( "MAXScript .*" )

and remove the space character after the word: “MAXScript”, like this:

self.AddPopupIgnorer( "MAXScript.*" )

This has already been fixed in Deadline 8.0.

We just updated to Deadline 9 and I had to do this. We were getting unhandled maxscript popups causing errors.

Shouldn’t be any need to…It was tweaked a while back, but if your running 9.0 (latest being 9.0.6.1) then its batteries included here. For reference, your py file should have these lines in it:

# Ignore 3dsMax MAXScript Debugger Popup (ENU, JAP, KOR, CHS, FRA, DEU) self.AddPopupIgnorer( "MAXScript .*" ) self.AddPopupIgnorer( ".* MAXScript" )

Are you running a custom/forked version of our plugin?

It’s the standard, latest version of Deadline. My py file did look like that, but removing that space so that it reads:

# Ignore 3dsMax MAXScript Debugger Popup (ENU, JAP, KOR, CHS, FRA, DEU) self.AddPopupIgnorer( "MAXScript.*" ) self.AddPopupIgnorer( ".* MAXScript" )

fixed this error

Interesting. What exact version of 3ds Max was this?

It’s 3ds Max 2017 SP3.
There is inconsistency because 50% of our rendernodes didn’t throw this error even although they should be identical. I have no idea what actually causes that maxscript error to popup, or why it’s in German!

ok, I think I see what has happened here. In your previous error message, you showed the word: “Unterbrechen”, meaning: “interrupt” in German. So, for those machines of yours displaying this problem, they are more than likely had “3dsMax 2017” started up in the “German” language mode. 3ds Max does this “helpful” thing, where it will always restart Max in the language it was last started up in. So, once German, forever German. Its at this point, you will probably want to start looking around the office for anyone that can speak German, whilst you reach for your handy “Hard Brexit” stick.

Anyhow, back on topic. Couple of ways to fix this. I also just booted up 3dsMax 2016 and 2017 in all possible languages and cross-referenced all the possible combo’s you can get of the title for the “MaxScript” debugger dialog. Now, we have to be very careful here, as your tweak to remove a whitespace character is actually there by design, as otherwise it will incorrectly identify other pop-up’s in 3ds Max, which instead of being ignored, MUST be handled explicitly. Luckily, there is a clean way to do this…so:

Change these lines:

# Ignore 3dsMax MAXScript Debugger Popup (ENU, JAP, KOR, CHS, FRA, DEU) self.AddPopupIgnorer( "MAXScript .*" ) self.AddPopupIgnorer( ".* MAXScript" )

to:

# Ignore 3dsMax MAXScript Debugger Popup (ENU, FRA, DEU, JPN, CHS, KOR, PTB) self.AddPopupIgnorer( "MAXScript .*" ) #ENU #JPN #CHS #KOR self.AddPopupIgnorer( ".* MAXScript" ) #FRA #PTB self.AddPopupIgnorer( "MAXScript-Debugger" ) #DEU

Notice, how you should leave that “space” character back in, in the first PopupIgnorer line and instead add an additional PopupIgnorer which handles the German language version of this dialog, which incidentally is the only one which we can handle via the other 2 ignorers. I have tagged the Ignorers by language for future reference internally as well.

You will need to make this change in a couple of places in the following plugins to be complete:

3dsmax (2)
CoronaDR (1)
VraySpawner (1)

I will make these changes internally for the next SP of DL9.

Other ways to fix this are to:

Force the language used via SMTD setting (“Override 3ds Max Language” under “Options Tab” → “User Options”)

Thanks for your help, it’s much appreciated.

Initially, I thought that maybe we had submitted a scene which was created in a German version of max which perhaps triggered the language to switch. But I don’t think this is the case as it would have opened on the users workstation in German too and we don’t have any German speakers here. I looked deeper into the Deadline log and it does seem to specify that the language was set to English in the registry:

Some things worth mentioning that may or may not affect any of this are that;

I discovered that not all the rendernodes successfully installed the Max 2017 SP3 update and some still are on Sp2
We aren’t using local user profiles for any of our 3ds Max installations including rendernodes ( useUserProfiles=0 in InstallSettings.ini )
We get a bunch of “resolve assemby” messages just before the Maxscript error pops up.

I’ve noticed that this is not the only error, some tasks failed with a different (German) error:

I’m going to go with the solution you provided which involves changing the lines in the py files.

Submitting from a newer version of 3ds Max and then trying to render on an older version (albeit only a service pack), pretty much always leads to disaster. I would make sure all machines are running exactly the same version here and then test again. Yeah, add that py script code fix as well and then see where your at. The “MAXScript-Aufzeichnung” -> “recording” kinda implies a MAXScript editor / prefs setting is trying to record all commands. Again, I would make sure all machines are patched. This error might just go away then. If not, it might well be a legitimate error in your Max scene.

One interesting (and un-related) issue is your submitting machine is reporting its Max version as: “19.5.917.0”, yet I can’t find what version that might be? Here’s a snippet from our known list:

In Max 2017 on this machine, could you go to “Help” menu -> “Autodesk Product Information” -> About 3ds Max". Does it say there what version this is?

The Max version on that machine says 19.0 SF commercial.
That appears to be some version of the security fix 2017.1.1 - it’s not a beta, it’s an official release installed through the Autodesk Desktop App.

I’ll get all versions of 3ds Max in sync as it’s apparent that there’s inconsistency among our machines which is not helping.
