Maya/MR license errors

Our Mental Ray (through Maya 2011) renders are error-ing like crazy. The error is a licensing error.
=======================================================
Error Message

Exception during render: An error occurred in RenderTasks(): Deadline caught error “Error: (Mayatomr) : could not get a license”. If this error message is unavoidable but not fatal to your render, please email deadline-support@primefocusworld.com with the error message, and disable the Maya job setting Strict Error Checking.
at Deadline.Plugins.ScriptPlugin.RenderTasks(Int32 startFrame, Int32 endFrame, String& outMessage)
I’ve read past posts about MR and licensing errors, but I wanted to get some clarification.

Here’s what I know… we have 10 licenses for rendering on MR, and they do work.

I currently have a case open with Autodesk support and they have commented on issues they have seen with 3rd party render managers. This was the comment made:

Can you comment on how Deadline handles the issues mentioned above by Autodesk. I just want to make sure I have an intelligent conversation with both companies… don’t want to be in a “its their fault” limbo.

Thanks!
brad

Hi Brad,
You haven’t by chance recently updated your Maya license server to support Maya2012?
Your errors look just like the issue identified here by the Maya support team blog site:

mayastation.typepad.com/maya-sta … Station%29

Hope this helps!
Mike

Very interesting! But no, I just received my 2012 license last night prior to these issues and have NOT installed it yet. This is strictly 2010 and 2011 licenses.

Hey Brad,

In Deadline lingo, this would be referring to Deadline’s concurrent task feature, which allows you to start up multiple instances of the rendering software on the same machine to render frames concurrently. By default though, concurrent tasks for a job is set to one, which means there will only be one instance of Maya running at a time on a machine.

Deadline renders as the same user that the Deadline Slave is running under. It doesn’t change who the rendering process is run as based on who submitted the job.

Hope that helps!

Perfect, those are the answers I needed!
