Привет, Иван!

The answer is, surprisingly, No and Yes. :open_mouth:

Yes, we have immediate plans to release Krakatoa SR (Stand-alone Renderer) for Windows, Linux and later for Mac OS X.

No, we don’t have short-term plans to target Maya specifically out of the box, it will be up to the end user for now to deal with integrating into his existing pipeline. (Not) Surprisingly, the majority of effects users seem to prefer Houdini as their source of particles, and even Softimage is a better candidate for integration than Maya. But we won’t be providing any direct integration with either of these applications in the near future, just a clean, Python-based, Renderman-like interface for the scene description and our open PRT file format for particle transfer. We will gladly assist companies and individuals in their efforts to integrate Krakatoa SR in their pipeline, but we would not be able to develop the connections from all existing 3D applications in she short term.

Hope this help.

That would be great to get some sort of PRT exporter for Maya.

We are aware of problems people are having with the free m2k project available out there, so we will be looking into providing a solution.
In addition, both ExoticMatter (Naiad) and NextLimit (Realflow) announced at Siggraph that they now support export to PRT, so we are quire excited to see the format getting some traction in the VFX and simulation community.

oh wow! thats pretty rad for them to support PRTs!

Just a heads up that we have posted a first video showing a prototype of Krakatoa SR in action.

The video is a continuation of the Krakatoa MX 2 Hair Rendering demos, be sure to check them out too if you haven’t.
It uses a reference exporter integrated into Krakatoa MX, but the general approach applies to all 3D applications.

Part 2 is coming up tomorrow…

“(Not) Surprisingly, the majority of effects users seem to prefer Houdini as their source of particles”

Is there going to be an integrated version of Krakatoa for Houdini ( similar to max )? or simply support for krakatoa SR for houdini?

Currently, there is no plan for an integrated version for Houdini or any other 3D app beyond Max.
The logic is that Houdini already has a powerful particle generation and manipulation toolset, and the companies using Houdini typically have the expertise to integrate yet another renderman-like renderer in their pipeline any way they like.
