Does the monitor occasionally ping the slaves?
Reason i ask is that due to some network troubleshooting, i’ve been looking at packet streams all day, and see a lot of pings coming from workstations. Also a lot (and i mean, a LOT) of ARP packets for machines that are currently offline… wondering where these come from
Yeah, it does. I could’ve sworn there was an option to turn that off, but I can’t seem to find it… It may have gotten taken out =/
Would be nice to be able to turn that off globally.
Its probably pretty innocent in terms of traffic on its own, but the main issue is that it seems to cause a major flood of broadcast messages from the switches, as every time a monitor pings offline machines, for each of those pings a network wide broadcast goes out “hey, has anybody seen this IP?”. Multiply that by the number of open monitors, and a couple hundred offline machines and you get thousands of broadcasts every second
Apart from the “ping” column in the slave panel, I too, could have sworn there was a setting either per slave or globally to disable ping. I think there was, but it was removed and ‘built-in’ between v5 & v6? It does make sense to expose it, if you have a big farm
Yeah we are trying to troubleshoot some network issues, and these pings are generating an awful lot of noise (and are mostly unused, maybe 1-2 people would need it in IT/wrangling). Thx!
I think you’re right Mike, that it may have been lost in the 5 -> 6 transition. I’ve added it to the todo pile.
