Hi, i have a problem where i am unable to see the normal channel in the particle data viewer ,I am exporting the normals channel for partilcesfrom realflow 2013 and importing in 3ds max via the prt loader(hy Domain-prt/hy_foam-prt)…all other
channels(velocity/vorticity etc ) are visible
When you say “i am unable to see the normal channel”, does this mean there is no Normal channel column, or there is one and the values are all zeros?
In either case, the question would have to go to NextLimit since we don’t control what their PRT saver exports. The PDV simply displays whatever is in the file you are loading. I suspect RealFlow particles might not have information about Normal orientation (but I have not looked closer yet).
i mean that there is no normals column…there is a normals channel in the prt export from realflow and also normals are needed for environment reflection right…? i am able to get those…that should mean that the prt is storing them no?
Thanks for replying
Unfortunately, I am not an expert when it comes to RealFlow. But I took a look at some BIN files I happened to have around, and they had a native Normal channel, mostly with correct data in it. But I also found a simulation where the particles had a Normal of [0,0,0], probably because it was a Hybrido one…
So I would have expected RealFlow to also write that data to the PRT file if you requested that.
Can you try loading the BIN file instead and check if there is a valid Normal channel? You might be able to work with the native particle BIN files directly without saving to PRT. Unless of course you are running the latest version of RealFlow and your version of Krakatoa does not read them right (there was some issue with this at some point in the past). I tested with the latest Krakatoa MX 2.3.0.54180 build and RealFlow 2013 and it worked ok.
