A Houdini artist was showing me this great new feature in Houdini 13 where you can divide your meshing into partitions so you can mesh and cache them concurrently on several different machines (as well as generate denser meshes than you could on a single machine). This would be a really useful feature for Frost/xMesh.
If you look at this PDF: openvdb.org/download/openvdb_toolset.pdf and scroll down to “Conversion” there’s an image that shows it pretty clearly.
Houdini is on it when it comes to integrating new technologies, meanwhile Autodesk bought Naiad 18 months ago and there’s still no word on a release… So it falls in the hands of the fantastic Thinkbox guys – if you can do it. Doesn’t have to be OpenVDB but that would be ideal for exchange.
