per frame job dependencies

Hi there,

This came up when we were negotiating deadline, and is now becoming something that we will have to figure out somehow & soon. Basically, the ability to daisy chain jobs where if frame 1 of job 1 finishes, frame 1 of job 2 gets unsuspended.

So not per job, but per task dependencies.

Is there any news on when/how that will be possible?

I think it already is, unless it somehow hasn’t made it into D6 yet. Have you tried setting ‘IsFrameDependent’ to ‘true’ in the jobInfo pairs yet?

Correct. To quote the docs:

You can also make the job frame dependent, which means that a frame from the job won’t begin rendering until the same frame from the other job(s) is complete. This is useful if you have a job that is dependent on the frames of another job, and you want the two jobs to render concurrently.

Useful if you need to do a simulation job prior to a rendering or an updated composite.

I looked at my “Scaline” document from my last visit and it says

Per-Frame Dependency
This is already part of Deadline since v2.7 in 2007!
