When I disable scene lighting (particle rendering) but the shading is set to Phong, I get an error about missing normal channel. Shouldn’t the shading be disabled when the lighting is too?

When I disable scene lighting (particle rendering) but the shading is set to Phong, I get an error about missing normal channel. Shouldn’t the shading be disabled when the lighting is too?
From user’s point of view, yes, this is a bug (and I find it annoying, too). From developer’s point of view, it might not be fixed because of some changes to the shading system we anticipate soon, but we cannot talk about yet.
