I imagined the benefit to a pinned layouts was to be able to hotkey or have 3 slots in the main toolbar which you could link a layout, so it only took 1 keystroke or click to swap between 3 or so most-used layouts. In its current implementation it seems its just like ‘load’ and ‘save’ layout without the file dialog.

Perhaps we can look at adding hot-key options for the layouts. I’ll add this to the wish list.

Nuke has the F## keys as layouts and Shift+F## as the “save” hotkey. I’ve been a fan of that arrangement since starting nuke.
I just checked that out, and I like it too.
Our current system allows you to have an arbitrary number of pinned layouts, and also lets you provide custom names for them. Having that sort of flexibility is a plus, but having quick ways to save and switch between layouts is nice too.
We’ll see what we can figure out.
