Play Crash

I can reproduce this 100%, Frost 1.3.0.47387, 3ds Max 2013 PU4

  1. Create a plane at 0,0,0, with dimensions 100x100
  2. Set segments to 32
  3. Add Noise modifier, Scale 5.0, Z: 5.0 Animate: Checked.
  4. Create Frost, choose Plane as Particle Object
  5. Switch Meshing to Geometry
  6. Switch Particle Geometry from Plane to Sphere.
  7. Press Play…Crash.

It doesn’t happen when scrubbing the time slider, only when hitting the play button.

Confirmed.
It appears that the Animated Noise mod. is the necessary condition…

Thank you very much for the report and for the precise steps!

Glad you tracked it down…

Couldou do me a favor and try to render that sequence? I can render iterative no problem, but when i try to render 0-100 production, it says, "Error Allocating mesh. Insufficient memory available for: Frost 001 Reduce the face count to render this scene.

I have 8GB free and it takes nothing to render the iterative.

When I disable the animated noise modifier, I can render production as intended. I assume the problems are related.

Thank you for your excellent bug report!

This should be fixed in the next Frost release. Yes, that rendering problem seems to be related, and it should be fixed too. I assume this is affecting your work, or it is a priority for you?

Just some R&D stuff, not pressing.

Any ETA on an update release?

Sorry! I’ll post an update later today at http://www.thinkboxsoftware.com/frost-downloads/beta-releases/
