I have run into a problem and I am hoping someone might know what is going on. My scene consists of 5 objects using the same point cache file that has been offset by 15 frames on each of the 5 objects to give some randomness. When rendering locally, I have no issues… all objects appear to be animated properly. When I send the scene to the farm to render through deadline, I get some objects that read in the point cache, and some that don’t. I am thinking that maybe I have to copy the cache files to each of the render machines; would that solve my problem? Are the render machines having issues because each of them is trying to access to the same cache file?
Thanks in advance.
Hi Joel,
A few initial questions:
- What software are you rendering with (Max, Maya, etc)?
- Is the point cache stored on a network accessible location that all the Slaves can see? Is it a server that they’re on or someone’s workstation?
- Is it always the same objects that don’t read in the point cache, or is it random? Do you ever get instances where all 5 objects read in the point cache properly?
- Are the 5 objects all rendered at the same time, or are they part of separate jobs (ie: they’re submitted as separate layers if you’re using Maya)?
Hopefully this information will give us a better understanding of the situation.
It’s hard to say for certain. Maybe send us a job log from a task that didn’t read in all point caches. Perhaps it will contain some info that explains why the point cache couldn’t be read. To find a job log, right-click on the job in the Monitor and select Job Reports → View Log Reports.
Thanks!
Thanks Ryan. After some trial and error I have located the issue and it has nothing to do with Deadline. It was an issue with the cache files I was using. The cache would display properly in the viewport but once it was called upon to render it would display an error and omit the cache.
Thanks again!
