Hey guys,
The monitor with all its awesome data columns is an ideal tool to filter to certain machines. But then when you want to change the pool/group settings on those machines, you have to go through the manage pools/groups ui which has none of the information about the slaves, nor filtering options.
At first i wanted to just ask for a feature in those GUIs where i could ‘show only slaves selected in monitor’, but maybe it could be done better too… say a group & a pool pane, and the ability to drag’n’drop machines between the slave list / group list? Of course that would not let you remove slaves from the groups/pools
Maybe the ‘show only slaves selected in monitor’ checkbox, along with making the manage groups/pools GUIs non-modal, so you can tweak your selection?
im not sure… what do you think?
This was exactly my point earlier in the week to Ryan about how I was missing the right-click pools/groups UI’s in v6 which were previously in v5.x.
In v5, you could use the filtering tools in the main monitor UI and then select the relevant slaves and then assign a pool OR group to them. Maybe bring back the RC menu entries or provide better filtering in the pools/groups management UI’s?
I forgot you could do that in v5, but something felt like a regression in v6 about this… The right click menus might have still been alive somewhere in my subconscious.
Hey guys,
Thanks for this feedback. The issue with the old right-click pools/group window was that it wasn’t very flexible. For example, you couldn’t do things like increase or decrease the priority of a pool across all slaves without overwriting the entire pool/group list. But we definitely agree that being able to filter the slaves in the Manage Pools/Groups window would be helpful.
We can definitely consider showing all the Slave list columns in the Manage Pools/Groups window, and adding the same filtering system. Would that work for you guys?
Cheers,
What if we had a right-click option that brought up the current form, with only the slave(s) you selected available in the list? That sounds easier to do to me
If it was a modal window and i could tweak my selection: this would work just fine!
Having a duplicate slave window for pool/group management with all its columns and filters would cause it to be a bit confusing i think… Like, you already have a set of nodes selected then you go to manage pools/groups, and now you are looking at something else in a different duplicate gui?
Btw, just to kick the dead horse one more time: there is also a little argument in there for having a refresh button (or say: a ‘pause gui refresh’ button, maybe hidden so only superusers can see it)… lets say you do use the filters to carefully select the 37 slaves that are doing something out of the 5-600, then before you notice, bang your monitor just updated, some slaves disappeared due to your filter settings etc
I like that idea! It basically combines the old behavior in v5 with the more flexible pools/groups panel. You essentially get the best of both worlds.
+1. Could it be a toggle button within the pools/groups management UI?
