possible DL for linux isn't setting my env's?

DL 7.2.0.7 (someday we’ll catchup…)
linux/win

I’ve been submitting the local environment variables with the render job since I was a whee lad. On our local windows farm, this has been fine. It allows us to swap versions of plugins, like vray nightlies with ease. What ever your rendering on locally is what the farm renders.

Now we’re going cloudy with our google friends and I’m submitting our environment variables, swapping out ‘win’ for ‘linux’ in the paths as I have linux versions of all our more important plugins (alembic, vray, soup…) and I’m not having any luck.

for a given windows render, the envs look like this:

and linux like this:

the job properties window looks like this:

I should be able to render vray with this, but I can’t. I get something that looks like attached log file.

I’ve tested all those paths, and they are all valid on the linux render image.

any thoughts?

Here’s the log.

Hi Christopher,

The fact that the Jobs are processing on cloud VMs shouldn’t (in theory) make a difference. My suggestion would be to use some scripts to inspect the environment from the perspective of the Job process. For example, echo back all the environment variables. Maybe that will offer some clues.

good call. thank you.

btw, envs are go now. I got a doc from Chaos Group that cleared the air on what vars to set in linux, so we’re working fine now.

Thank you.

for others, here’s the answer to setting envs for vray for maya:

Excellent link, Christopher. Thanks for sharing!
