I’m encountering some odd power management issues:
-
When I change the values in the Slave Management tab, close the window, then re-open the window…the values are back to what they were before I changes them. It’s almost like they’re stuck and revert back to that once the window is closed.
-
Pulse is sending out a Stop Slave command during a time period when it shouldn’t be. Basically, in Deadline 5, I had the workstations set to start slave at 10pm and to stop slave at 6am…with it set to “allow slaves to finish their current task when stopping”. This all worked great in D5. In D6, however, it seems like it thinks that because it’s after the time it was set to stop and before the time it’s set to start…that it should be stopped. So, if and artist leaves early and adds their machine to the farm…deadline will allow it to pick up one frame, render it, and then stop it. That’s a bummer…
Also, how do you “flush” the old default port settings from D5 (5042) and update them to the new default port of 17060? Where is that ini?
Thoughts?
Which beta build of Deadline 6.1 are you running? I’m pretty sure we’ve fixed (1) already. You can check the full Deadline version number in the Monitor by selecting Help -> About.
Looks like (2) is actually a bug, and wasn’t an intentional change. This will be fixed in beta 7.
You shouldn’t have to do this, since Deadline 6 uses a different deadline.ini file than Deadline 5. For example, on Windows Deadline’s 6 deadline.ini file would be in C:\ProgramData\Thinkbox\Deadline6, instead of C:\ProgramData\Thinkbox\Deadline which it was for version 5.
Cheers,
We’re running Deadline 6.0.0.51561
So, should I update to 6.1?
The reason I asked about flushing the port settings, is because it seems like some things from D5 have found their way to D6…and I’m not sure how if the settings files are unique. For instance, in the power management dialog the group name and the times that were in use carried over…I didn’t do anything to set it up. When I realized there was an issue, I deleted the group and tried to start clean…but when I opened the dialog back up the group name had stayed changed, but the times had all reverted back. What’s also odd is that for Sat and Sun, we weren’t checking the boxes next to the times…and the times were set to 00:00…now they keep getting checked-on and the time for both is set to 04:59. So, it seems like it’s getting a conflict form somewhere. Also, the port is set to 5042 and I read in another thread that it should be defaulting to 17060…but when I try to change it in the repository settings and relaunch pulse, it fails to start up and pitches one helluva fit.
How do we fix this?
That sounds even weirder than the ports carrying over… In Deadline 5, this was all done with file-based stuff, but in D6 all of that stuff is stored in the Database, I really have no clue how this would even be possible. Did you guys install the D6 repo over top of the Deadline 5 repo? If so, I’d recommend just starting a D6 repo in a new location to break ties to the old version as much as possible.
There were definitely a few Power Management related bugs in 6.0, which sound like what you’re describing. These have since been fixed in 6.1, so if you want these fixes you’ll have to update to one of the Beta builds, or wait for release.
It’s a fresh install…new machines and everything. The repo is on a different machine, pulse is running on my workstation for the moment (while testing) and the database is on a new machine that’s dedicated to it. Yeah, I’m a little confused too how some of that stuff could carry over…but it did. The only common link is my workstation…
If I could get access to 6.1 and run the update to see what issues that resolves, that would be great. Is it just the latest build (beta 6) located here: viewtopic.php?f=85&t=10284
Is that my best bet, or should I grab something else?
Thanks!
Barring any last minute issues, beta 7 should be going out tomorrow, so you might just want to wait for that version. In the meantime though, if you don’t have a 6.1 license, you can send a request to get one:
