It would be very interesting to get some kind of presets for digital camera noises based on grain matching from various camera such as hvx200, red one etc.
We’ve had a few in the past, specifically for the Genesis and one of the Sony cameras (we do presets for major projects), but I personally wasn’t 100% pleased with them all the time. For whatever reason, specifically with the Sony, the noise seemed to vary depending on scene lighting. This doesn’t make sense from what I know about camera noise, where it’s the product of individual CCD sensors under and overexposing, but maybe there’s something that was tweaked shot-to-shot that would have affected this, or they swapped the camera out halfway through, etc. This is disturbing because it would mean that the Sony Cameras each have a unique noise intensities.
The genesis camera I have less experience with directly – the preset might have worked in this case. I’ll look into it.

Sean is right about the problem with presets and scene lighting. The amount of noise will change based on exposure times, and brightness/contrast adjustments in the camera. So I think that even with presets, you would still be fiddling with settings on certain shots. I can look into this more though.
