i just talked to Raphael (silverwing) and he mentioned that it might be cool to have a progress bar in the PRT saver. I also experienced that since my C4D is freezing in the background when i write the files with the saver until it’s finished. So right now i open the folder and look if there are still new frames coming in.
Is it possible to add a progress bar? Maybe in the status bar of C4D?
In the next Beta 4, the saving of particles will be performed the same way as the rendering is.
Instead of rendering to View, Images etc., you will switch it to “render” to PRTs.
This is the same approach as in Krakatoa MX.
The reason is that when saving regular C4D Emitters, the PRT Saver was not able to switch the scene to “render” mode, so the viewport particles were saved instead of the render-time ones. With some other Krakatoa objects like PRT Volume and a new PRT Surface getting dedicated viewport vs. render settings and actually displaying preview particles in the viewports, it became very necessary to support the render mode correctly.
So any particle system that has a dedicated render mode different from the viewport preview display will be respected by the PRT saving process.
You would set the frame range like for batch rendering frames, switch Krakatoa to PRT saving and hit the Render icon as usual.
We will also add Partitioning controls to produce multiple iterations with varying random seeds (right now only the C4D Emitter is supported, we will be looking into how to support all possible sources). Then the PRT Loader will let you load multiple variations of the same simulation in one object to produce a lot more particles than a single simulation could handle safely.
The only problem we see right now is that saving to PRTs still produces image output in the Picture Viewer, and we haven’t found a way to suppress the image saving yet. But at least the progress display won’t be an issue anymore, because there will be no difference between rendering images and saving particle file sequences from the workflow point of view…
@ Bobo,
thats great news and a very good workflow I think!
I´m really looking forward to the new release. Also I´m very interested in that “Multible Random Seed Simulations for More Particles” idea. That sounds awesome!
Fingers crossed that all works our smooth and you´ll find a way to disable the image saving!
