proper repository instalation

Hey gang…

I did beta testing by installing the mongoDB on my local machine and creating the repository on the network share drive.
Now it’s time for us to deploy and in the docs, i saw that it was important to have a machine with lotsa ram and stuffs for the repository installation.

I would like to use one of our SAN servers that got 64 gigs of ram… And install a fresh repository , mongoDB, and install onto it…

My question is:
If the repository was already done on a windows workstation, will the option to use EXISTING DATABASE will make it the machine that will be used and pinged? …or there will still be any sort of access to my beta testing machine and local install happening? I dont want my local machine to still receive any sort of demands…

not sure i know how to make it happen…

thanks for your time!

sly

btw our SAN server is linux of course…

Hey Sly,

If you don’t have MongoDB on your linux server yet, just run the Repository installer on it and choose the option to install a new database. The database settings will be populated for you in the installer, and those settings will be stored with the Repository when it gets installed. This means that any machine that connects to this new Repository will ONLY connect to the database it was configured to use. Your database or the Repository on your workstation will NOT be accessed.

Hope that helps!
