PRT Hair Enable in Viewport

Don’t know if this is a bug per se, or just a workflow problem.

I have a PRT Hair for the entire scene. I have a magma operator on top that converts density->radius.

I have a frost loading the PRT Hair object. So with the radius being populated from the falloff density, I am seeing the frost grow thinner towards the tip, great.

However, to make fine tne the mesh I need to hide the particles, and when I disable “enable in viewport” the Density input in the magma op becomes red. Is there a way to disable the viewport particles while keeping their data alive?

Yes.

By default, Frost uses the current particles - the viewport particles for the viewport mesh, and the render particles for the render mesh. But it also has an option to “Use Render Particles” in the viewport, so you can disable the viewport display of the PRT Hair and the Frost will still get particles by requesting the render ones…
