Random Deadline crapout

After (Deadalus02) (yes I know it’s misspelled it’s on my list of things to do haha) fails the first render for reasons not-specific.

And then really bites it hard a few seconds later:

It restarts the frame and then it stumbles again on some weird errror:

ERROR: Traceback (most recent call last): File "none", line 72, in RenderTasks File "none", line 807, in RenderTasks File "none", line 1363, in RenderFrame File "none", line 1456, in PollUntilComplete a: RenderTask: Unexpected exception (Failed to render the frame. ons_Color.tga

and finally it then proceeds to start complaining about missing maps, which aren’t missing even though “ignore missing maps” is checked anyway so it shouldn’t make a difference one way or another.

meanwhile on another machine (Render i7 01)…

It’s decided it doesn’t want to work anymore for the night, picks up the jobs and pretends to be working while doing nothing (see other thread about machines not rendering or cancelling or doing anything reliably.

So as far as I can tell, this error that you keep encountering:

ERROR: Traceback (most recent call last): File "none", line 72, in RenderTasks File "none", line 807, in RenderTasks File "none", line 1363, in RenderFrame File "none", line 1456, in PollUntilComplete a: RenderTask: Unexpected exception (Failed to render the frame. ons_Color.tga

Is essentially just Lightning reporting that the render it passed off to Max failed, doesn’t seem to be anything Deadline6 related that would be causing this (though the error text is obviously a bit wonky-looking; I have no idea where ‘ons_Color.tga’ keeps coming from)… I don’t even think we even touched Lightning for 6.

Out of curiosity, have you tried rendering this in 5.2 at all? Also, the ‘file not found’ errors you’re getting might be pointing to some kind of Networky troubles, I wonder if your file server is getting swamped, and this is some of the fallout… Have you guys been having network-type issues with W:\ outside of Deadline, or is it just the D6 slaves reporting stuff like this?

Cheers,

  • Jon

Our deadline 5 slaves are working fine. So it seems isolated to Deadline 6.

Regarding this output, it’s actually nothing to worry about:

viewtopic.php?f=86&t=8410&start=10#p35699

That’s not to say there are not legitimate issues here, but this particular bit of output is a non-issue.

This may all be related to the bug we’ve just discovered in that same thread I linked to while running the slave in -nogui or service mode. Once we get that fixed (hopefully for beta 6), we can see if there are still issues like this when rendering.
