RCS and/or Direct confusion

Hi All,

I’m not sure what the plan is with migrating to RCS from the standard Direct connection.

It doesn’t seem to be announced anywhere but from what I understand RCS is the preferred set-up as opposed to the traditional direct folder connection.

It seems you can run the two together though, what are the issues that arise from this or can it be done without issue? (looks like it splits itself?)

Is there a plan to phase out the direct connection to the folder or will this always stay?

Is there a way to set an auto-configuration so exisiting direct connect clients can be shifted the the RCS method?

thanks

Hello!

There’s nothing official in the works but RCS does get rid of a lot of issues with Direct connection (chief among them being folder permissions) and you’ve got to have it if you’re using AWS Portal or the Spot Event Plugin.

Running both Direct Connection and Remote Connection on the same farm is fine, there’s no issues with a mixed farm in that regard.

At the moment there’s no way to swap from Direct Connect to RCS using Auto-Config but the change could be propagated with an updated Client Config file.
