Re: Shotgun + Alpha 4 config and frame info

Hey guys,

Things are looking really nice. I only have 3 unreported nuggets that hung me up a little when doing my testing.

  1. If you attempt to submit from Nuke when the Shotgun config hasn’t been setup, you get a generic UNKOWN ERROR without any details in the Shotgun panel console window . This one had me stumped for a little bit as I didn’t realize that the config gets overwritten when you install a new version of Deadline. It would be great if we could give more feedback, such as, when Deadline detects missing server/api key info it shows an error that says something like “The Shotgun integration is not configured. Go to the Shotgun event plugin configuration and setup your Shotgun information”

  2. If you specify a frame range like “10-20,30” or “10-20 30-35,40” the first frame and last frame are set to -1 in Shotgun. The frame count is correct however.

  3. If you specify an invalid field name in the config, the artist will see a long stack trace when they attempt to submit the job (see attached). It would be great if we could log this but save the artist from seeing the whole thing and instead perhaps just say something like “The Shotgun submission failed. Details are logged in /path/to/log/file.log. Please check your Shotgun plugin configuration.”

Let me know if you want me to look deeper at anything else on the Mac side of things. I’m happy to help out where I can!

I’ve added these to my to-do list; hopefully I’ll be able to get to them before the next alpha build.

As for Shotgun settings getting wiped on the upgrade, it definitely shouldn’t be doing that. Maybe we overlooked backing up/restoring event plugin configurations on upgrades (like we do for our regular plugins) – I’ll make sure to take a look at that also.

Cheers,
Jon
