I just set up Realflow and Deadline and have been submitting jobs to our render server. They have been working fine except when I enable clipping on the mesh. No matter how I clip it - with an object or a box - the mesh it generates is empty. I’ve tried rebuilding the clipping geometry but it still generates an empty mesh. If I build the mesh in the viewport it works fine, but not when I submit it.
Has anyone run into this before?
Forgive me ahead of time because I’m not completely familiar with realflow’s inner workings.
Deadline runs realflow jobs using realflow’s command line application. It has the following usage:
Usage: RealFlow [ [-help] [-license] [-mesh] [-useCache] [-threads [numberOfThreads] [-range [frameBegin frameEnd]] [-log logPath] scenePath] | [-script scriptPath]
If you submit the job with the Use Mesh option checked, then Deadline passes the -mesh argument to realfow. Have you tried rendering the same realflow file from the command line outside of Deadline to see if you have the same problem? You can check out the render log for the job to see how Deadline is passing the arguments to realflow. If you do run into the same problem, then the problem is likely with realflow’s command line tool itself. If you find a way to have success via the command line, let us know, because it might be that we’re passing the wrong arguments to realflow.
Cheers,
Sorry for the late reply! I haven’t had time to go back and test the RF command line to see if it exhibits the same issue (based on your explanation I’m assuming it does) but I did figure out that the RF plugin for maya gives you the same option for clipping when you import the mesh. This is a better option in my opinion since it is non-destructive on the mesh data.
