I tried searching and reading the manual but can’t find a clear answer.
I have a 60 Node GPU farm that has Maxon C4D and Redgiant command line render licenses via the Maxon App (All working fine). Our previous projects we added in full Monthly RedShift Licenses to our Maxon Account.
I want to know if I can mix Redshift UBL licenses when rendering C4D using Redshift via the C4D Batch Plugin? Or does Redshift UBL only work when also using C4D UBL?
Anyone able to clarify this?
I’ll see if I can test this next week, but what you’re asking is
Does the UBL for Redshift cancel out the C4D license as it requests a similar license?
I think the Redshift UBL license are called via the original RLM licensing system, so hopefully that shouldn’t knock out the Cinema4D license (Which can run RLM, MLS, MaxonApp…)
I’m looking to use my existing C4D command line licenses via the Maxon App and license for the C4D redshift plugin in C4D via the UBL licensing.
Or do I need to switch both C4D and Redshift over to UBL licensing?
It appears C4D command line licenses would work like Houdini, where Redshift is licensed separately. Unlike the C4D GUI/bundles licenses referenced at https://support.maxon.net/hc/en-us/articles/15709997126428-What-is-the-difference-between-a-Cinema-4D-Redshift-Bundle-and-Cinema-4D-Subscription-as-of-September-2024.
To test this, you could purchase the minimum amount of Redshift UBL time which is only $30. On my local render nodes, I have Houdini Engine licenses served by local sidefx license servers, and Redshift served by Deadline UBL.
Assuming you have UBL configured, and have a license forwarder configured for the needed region:
In Deadline, create a license limit for the UBL application “redshift” and associate the necessary machines with that limit. Add that limit to your job and it should use only Redshift UBL licenses (excluding machines that have local Redshift licenses, which should be added to the “excluded from limits” section in the limit properties).
Note that UBL is licensed per worker, so you’ll want to keep it at one worker per machine, and just run concurrent tasks.
