While working a bit more with deadline 6(.1) i wanted to suggest a few UI updates
For those with a smaller renderfarm I think it happens more often that one manually cancels slave tasks or temporarily changes machine limits of jobs to make space for quicker-in between renders.
Often the Jobs currently rendering are longer frames and then it takes too long to wait until the frame is done.
For this it would be great to have the option to directly go to the “Machine Limits” menu of a job.
Now you first have to click the job, go to job properties, then go to machine limits and then change it.
It’s only a few click, I know, but (for me) it’s the most common option I use after submitting a job so it would be great to skip those extra clicks if possible
Besides that I often use the cancel task within the task window. There I really miss a “job icon” instead of having the job plugin label.
As a graphical person word-recognition isn’t my strongest point and since all plugin names are green it’s takes a second to identify and double check that you’re canceling the right job.
(eg. I don’t want to cancel long realflow sims, but don’t mind to cancel a max taks to make place for an after effects render)
So I figured using the programs logo is allot easier to identify then those green characters.
What if we remembered the last page that was selected when the properties was closed, and then started with that page selected the next time the properties are opened? This way, since you use machine limits a lot, in most cases it will already start on that page for you.
I don’t think we want to add a way to always automatically open on machine limits, or any page for that matter, since I’m sure other users use other pages more often as well.
Could you just use the search field to filter out jobs you wouldn’t want to cancel, or simply sort on the job’s plugin name? We could probably look at making this change in the future, but maybe those options might help for now?
That’s indeed a better option and more useful to everyone… would be cool!
Yes, it’s not a problem of any kind at the moment (indeed sorting is a good solution)
It was more that I felt it would make things easier and look better at the same time
