So far I’ve been running all of my Deadline apps manually from terminals to better see and capture errors or other strange output, but it would be really nice if the Monitor had a console pane that could be added to display its stdout/stderr streams. This wouldn’t need to be persistent or anything, and I don’t really care if it captures output if the pane is hidden, but I’d like to be able to catch errors more immediately without having to launch it from a terminal.
I wanted to request this as well, but then I found a solution at least for OSX: With the console app you can directly access the log files from the Deadline Monitor under /Library/Logs/Thinkbox/Deadline6. Does this help?
Not really in my case, but it’s a good tip. OSX is more of a necessary evil than anything else, as our pipeline is built first and foremost for and around Linux.
Great idea! In beta 13, there will be a new Console panel that you can display and dock wherever you want it. It will only capture text when it’s visible, and if it’s closed and reopened, it will be empty again.
