Sanity check... Voxel size and density

Just doing some voxel rendering testing and noticed something odd.

When you change the voxel size, the alpha in the render changes. Shouldn’t the density be fairly constant, not a the pixel level, of course, but as an average over the whole image?

I just want to make sure I’m not forgetting something.

We’re seeing this on SR too, where we’re trying to interactively scale the voxel size to maintain framerates. I don’t think we should be compensating, but maybe it’s expected?

We have a bug logged against this based on your original post in October.
All Krakatoas share the same rendering engine, so fixing it in KMX would fix it in KSR too.

Ok, thanks. It’s just weirder with SR where we know we COULD fix it, but aren’t sure if we SHOULD. That’s why I was trying to determine if it was a bug or a feature.

Our bug report also says we should determine whether it is a bug or not… So we are on the same page, kind of.

It was determined it was a BUG and it was corrected in build 2.1.6.
thinkboxsoftware.com/krakato … change-log

We decided NOT to include a legacy compatibility mode or make any changes to old scenes in the KMX build since it was plain wrong. Please let us know if this sounds acceptable.
You can still adjust the Density settings to get the old appearance, but in general old scenes will render differently (correctly) in the new build if the Voxel Size was not 1.0.

This fix will also be in Krakatoa Maya and Krakatoa SR when they are released.
