Tested with v0.4.0.ab31320 on Windows 7.
The separators in the default path of the File->SAVE VIEWPORT Image As->IMAGE SEQUENCE Animation dialog inconsistently mixes forward and back slashes. Exporting still works with this path specification and choosing a different output path produces a path that uses all forward slashes.
