Scheduling Priority

I’m feeling like I’m missing something with the scheduling options.

Can somebody confirm these assumptions:

  • It seems like balanced ignores priority
  • If you pick either weighted or priority, then whoever gets the highest values, gets all the resources?
  • First in first out, assumes that who ever is the first job wins everything.

Is there no way to get at least some of the procs for each job, so you can at least see some frames completing before leaving for the night?

What I’m used to is having the priority be a bias for the balanced scheduling, rather than an all or nothing value.
An example senario might be a farm with one job at 50. So it takes all the procs. Later a second job comes in at 50, and it gradually takes half the procs. Then they up the priority of the first job to 100, this would balance the farm to having the first job take 2/3 of the procs and the second job at a 1/3 of the procs.

I know there are pools, and I can see that I might be able to get a poor mans approach by assigning a pool of procs for each artist, but that seems fairly labour intensive.

Thanks for any help…

Sam.

Hello Sam,

So if you use balanced alone it will ignore anything else, but you can choose pool, balanced, or pool, priority, balanced, as well as other options if you want to use more than just a balanced approach.
