Shotgun integration

Hello

We’re having a play with the Shotgun integration, which is working well for the most part. What I can’t get working is getting Draft to upload: it creates the movies quite happily, but won’t upload to Shotgun. Where can I find the logs relating to this?

Also, is it expected behaviour for the user in Shotgun to be “deadline_integration 1.0”? Surely it should be the user who’d submitted the job?

Many thanks

Tom

Hey Tom,

The logs should be a separate entry in the Job Reports panel, for the Draft job that created the video to upload to SG. Are you using your own custom script to generate the movie file, or are you relying on the new ‘create/upload movie’ checkbox? Where are you submitting the original Job from (e.g. nuke, maya, max, Monitor)?

Also, the ‘created by’ field should indeed be the API script name (‘deadline_integration’), I don’t know that we have control over that. The Artist field should be marked as the user who submitted the job, though.

Cheers,
Jon

Thanks Jon.

No, there’s nothing in the logs for the Draft job. At least, there’s a Render Log, but not the Event Log that I’d expect to see as well.

I’m relying on the new ‘create/upload movie’ checkbox. Using After Effects as a test platform, but I can try it in Nuke too.

Understood on the ‘created by’ field. The Artist field is populating correctly, yes. Ideally it’d be nice to have the artists’ names populate the Activity feed, though. Otherwise it’ll be inundated with “deadline_integration 1.0 created this Version …”, which isn’t very useful information to have.

Thanks for your help on this.

Tom

Hey Tom,

I’m not sure why there wouldn’t be a log showing up… it might be that for whatever reason Deadline isn’t tying the Draft job to the Shotgun version properly.

Do you have the Shotgun versions being created at submission time, or on completion? We’ve had at least one other client run into this issue, where the Draft Event plugin was triggering before the Shotgun Event plugin had a chance to create the Version to begin with, but that would only be a problem if you aren’t creating the versions at submission time.

If you look at the Draft Job’s (the one creating the quicktime) properties, under the ‘Extra Info’ section, does it have a Key/Value Pair entry with the ‘VersionId’ key? If not, what is in there?

That’s exactly what’s happening: the versions are being created at submission time. Deadline’s happily creating and uploading the thumbnail afterwards, so that all works fine – but anything Draft just isn’t updating Shotgun. Asking Draft to create the thumbnail, for instance, doesn’t work.

The Key/Value Pair entry in the Draft Job’s properties is blank. I’m guessing it shouldn’t be?

Thanks Jon.

Hey Tom,

Yeah, the Draft job is supposed to have some Shotgun Version info in there, so that the Plugin knows where to upload it… Can you archive both jobs (the original, and the Draft job that got generated), and send over the .zip files? I’d like to see if there’s anything odd with the job that could have caused this info to be missing in the Draft job…

Cheers,
Jon
