Slave License Errors

Hi there,

I’m really getting **** off by the “slave license error” Flexnet is throwing at me whenever I need to restart any of my machines on the farm.

I have 10 machines and 10 licenses of Deadline. When one of the machines starts acting up during rendering, I usually start debugging by restarting it (either via CMD or even via the Deadline Monitor). The problem is, when the machine restarts and boots up again, the license manager still thinks the machine is running and won’t assign it the license as it doesn’t have any available, thus throwing this error:

FLEXnet Licensing error:-4,132

I have to manually go to the server (via RD) and stop/start the FLexnet server in order to release all the licenses.

This is just annoying and delays my rendering, unfortunately.

Isn’t there anything I can do in order to make the lic. manager to properly recognize when a license has been released (i.e. when a PC has been restarted)?

Thanks in advance, cheers…

We have actually already made improvements in the current 5.2 maintenance release candidate to deal with this problem.

One improvement is when a slave goes to check out a license, a check is made if that slave already has a license issued to it. If that’s the case, it will reuse that license rather than check out a new one.

The second improvement is that the Launcher service has a TCPIP dependency. This means that the Launcher service will start after networking is available, and shutdown before it becomes unavailable. As part of the shutdown, the Launcher service will also shutdown the Slave. This ensures the Slave returns its license before the TCPIP dependency is shut down.

These two changes should fix the problems you are seeing. Here’s the download link:
