Still having problems with getting deadline up and running on windows 7.
Tried running things as administrator, running as admin service, 3dsmaxcmd workaround, guest user enabled- but still get this error message from all slaves.

Do you only have this problem when rendering with VRay, or do you have the same problem with scanline and mental ray? For whatever reason, the Max renderer is failing to open, so it would be good to know which renderers this is affecting. Also, have you tried opening this scene in 3dsmax on one of the slave machines to see if you can render locally? Finally, are all of your slave machines running Windows 7? Just curious if you’ve had any success or could test on another version of Windows. All this information should help us narrow down the problem.
If possible, can you post a simple test scene that reproduces this problem?
I have just installed the trial of max 2010 64bit and everything seems to be working perfectly now (fingers crossed anyway). Looks like an upgrade is needed for max
As for 2009, the test slaves are both on 64bit windows 7. I tried it with scanline/vray & mentalray and it was always the failed to open max renderer or access denied.
I have tried lots of different scenes (lots of creating some objects and sending to deadline) and they all have the problem. We only have win7 machines running so not able to test on any other os.
Hi,
I have same problem with Deadline 3.1.0.36381 + Max 2009 x64 + Win 7 x64 RTM.
All render of scene with / without Vray (scanline) - result is the same - process closed by error:

Renders “inside” Max (without Deadline) working fine - there is no errors.
Deadline 3.1.0.36381 + Max 2009 x64 + Win Vista x64 also good working.
This is actually a different problem then the error in the original post. V-Ray is popping up a message box during rendering, which is causing Deadline to fail the job. You can see by the error message that Deadline is trying to handle the dialog by pressing “OK”, but it’s not finding it.
Are you rendering on a non-English OS, or an OS with a different text encoding? The reason I ask is that if I copy and paste ‘OK’ from this line…
0: WARNING: Button: ОК
…into a text editor on my machine, I get ‘??’, so obviously the encoding is different, and that could explain why Deadline can’t find the ‘OK’ button.
Here’s something to try. Copy ‘OK’ from the line above to the clipboard, and then open the file \your\repository\plugins\3dsmax\3dsmax.py in a text editor and find this line:
self.AddPopupHandler( ".*V-Ray warning.*", "OK" )
Replace the ‘OK’ in this line with the one you copied to the clipboard earlier, then save the file and try rendering again. Let us know if that helps!
Thanks for answer, Ryan,
I’d replace “OK” in this file but nothing changed. Error still the same. (btw it looks Deadline though find button 'cause window closing after 3-4 seconds; it was also before replacing)
You are right - I use Russian Win7. But all the time Deadline working in non-English localized system (WinXP, Vista) and working great.
Here is error in scene without any material/objects/lights from Vray - it is fully Scanline scene (I made it special for test). And it get Vray error.
Version of software not changed from other working system except OS upgrade.
Update: I had uninstall Vray (1.5 SP2 x64) and scene render working well.
So there is some incompatibility Win7 + Max2009 +Vray 1.5 SP2 and Deadline…
Regards,
Sergey
P.S. I find one not pleasant bug what I’ve seen before after version 3.1 installed - when camera is locked in Max Render dialog (lock sign pressed), Deadline rendering ignore camera view and render top view. If you unlock it - all goes fine.
Deadline itself works fine on a non-English/unicode systems. The problem here is that Deadline is looking for a non-unicode ‘OK’, but all it’s finding is the unicode ‘ОК’ (which fails when doing a text comparison). Unfortunately, we’re not sure of a workaround at the moment. Disabling popup handling wouldn’t help, because then the render would get stuck at that popup indefinitely.
If you have vray installed on the workstation you’re creating the test scene on, it’s very possible that it could still reference the vray plugin, which is why you see this popup. Have you checked to ensure that you have the same version of vray installed across all of your machines? That would theoretically stop the popup from displaying in the first place.
Note: it might be worth mentioning to the vray developers that this popup is being displayed, even though 3dsmax is being run in slave mode.
