Solutions to sync files to/from the cloud

Hi

What solutions do you use to sync your files from/to the cloud network?

  • I want an automated process that is able to provide changed files within a minute (of course metadata, the data itself is not possible that quickly).
  • It should only transfer files that are required to the cloud and automatically download all new files on the cloud back to our on-premise server.
  • It would be nice to keep our on-premise fileserver, but we might rethink that.
  • Keeping SMB file access rights would be nice as well, but if the solution is NFS only we just start an SMB on top with new access rights for the cloud machines.

But there are so many applications out there. What do you use?

And so far I have found 2 types of solutions:

A) Complete replacement/new fileservers.
Our on-premise fileserver has to be replaced with that new OS.
Cloud fileservers use the same OS.
(e.g. AWS Storage Gateway or GlusterFS)

B) Plugin for existing fileservers
A plugin will be installed on the on-premise Windows or Linux fileserver.
(e.g. professional like Resilio to semi-professional like Dropbox)

Have you taken a look at Hammerspace in your research? Asking only because we published an event plugin available here to integrate with it.

I don’t know much about it personally, but I figure it’s worth a shout out. There’s a blog post about it up here - Multi-Region Rendering with Deadline and Hammerspace | Hammerspace
