Are there plans to make an import script that pulls in an SR scene description?
I have thought about it, I suspect it would be possible.
Why do you want that?
Right now, you are probably the only beta site that uses both KMX and KSR.
FYI, KMX 2.0 Final will be released without the KSR output until KSR itself is released as a product.
This is because we expect some significant changes in the PY scene description and don’t want to have KMX2 out there that quickly becomes incompatible with newer Betas of KSR. The code will be in KMX, but the UI options will be disabled. I might have to provide you with a custom version of the KrakatoaGUI.ms in the coming weeks so you can keep on exporting to the updated output of KSR from Max. Everybody else is on Maya, Softimage or Houdini, and that’s what we will be concentrating on.
The use case for us is to export SR python from MX, load that into another application (Fusion in our current case) modify something, do test renders in SR, find out we need to make some more significant change (like with a KCM or with something involving assets already in 3ds max) and just pull the Fusion SR python export into max.
But I’m thinking someone with say Houdini could output an SR script and based on the parameters you support with SR, you’d be able to pull it into 3ds max pretty much exactly. Just based on how the parameters are (not coincidentally) the same as the ones in max, minus the transform matrix.
