Submit Max to Deadline Script error

Hi,

We’re having an issue with some of our XP machines not being able to run the Submisison script from 3DS Max. I’ve attached the error we’re getting but I’m not really sure where to start with fixing it. I think the issue is that it doesn’t seem to be able to load the files from the repository and throws up a number of errors about not finding files in the repository (think it was error codes 1040, 1042, 1004). I can definitely see the repository from the machine because I can run both the monitor and the slave on the machine. It’s also not all of the XP machines that are having the issue. I’ve looked in the “local settings” folder on one of the problem machines and where on my machine there are all the various STMD scripts files, on the problem machine there are none.

Any help you can give would be greatly appreciated.

Cheers

Nick
Deadline Error.txt (4.02 KB)

Hi,
Looks like the macro file “Prime Focus-SubmitMaxToDeadline.mcr” file is missing from “C:\Program Files\Autodesk\3ds Max 2011\UI\usermacros”.
I’ve seen this before with new users / re-configuration of a 3dsMax UI, including users tinkering with the “InstallSettings=0” / userProfile setting, which is the work of the devil / Bill Gates. Delete as applicable.
Probably easiest thing to do, is copy over from another machine this missing file.
Also: “C:\DOCUME~1\brobins\LOCALS~1\Temp\submitOutput.txt” tell Ben he should know better! LOL!
HTH,
Mike

Hi Mike,

It was missing the file yes. I copied the file in but it still doesn’t seem to have resolved the issue. I’m still getting the same errors.

On another machine I’m getting much the same result but it’s saying “Timed out getting Repository Root from Deadline Command (error code: 1003)”. Again using monitor I can connect to the repository on the machine though! It’s really baffling me.

Is there specific set of files I should be checking are there?

Hi,
On the troublesome machine can you right-click on the Deadline launcher and click “Change Repository” and set the correct repository path. Then try clicking on “Change User” and see if this works ok and you are able to login to Deadline using a particular user name?
Mike

I tried to change the Repository and it wasn’t happy. The user is not an administrator and for some reason didn’t have access to the all users folder. I’ve rectified that but still can’t get it to load properly. I didn’t try to change the user because it’s linked to the windows login. As i said the monitor works fine as does the slave I just can’t get it to integrate with Studio Max!

Check to see if the following command works from a command prompt:

deadlinecommand -getrepositoryroot

So, I spoke to Edwin over at Thinkbox and he solved the problem for me.

If anyone has the same issue try this:

check whether you’ve got the same issue:
-in command run deadlinecommand -getrepositoryroot

  • if it doesn’t give you back the repository root then you’re missing the path variable.

Solution (this was for XP):

  • click on Start Menu
  • right click on My Computer
  • go to properties
  • go to the “Advanced” tab
  • at the bottom select “Environment Variables”
  • under “System Variables” find the Variable “Path”
  • click edit and check that the Path “C:\Program Files\Thinkbox\Deadline\bin” is in there. If it’s not add it to the end of the line with with a semi-colon seperating it from the last entry
    eg ;C:\Program Files’\Thinkbox\Deadline\bin

When you load 3DS Max back up that should now work!

Hi
I have a similar problem with Deadline 4.1 loaded on two machines. I have checked all the points mentioned by you and all of them are just okay. I still get the error message 1023 - Timed out … when I run the macro from 3DS Max.

I have 3DS Max - 2010
Windows 7 64 bit
Deadline 4.1

In fact I get this issue even on the machine which has the Repository?? Can anyone help?

It sounds like you are running into the issue described in this thread:
viewtopic.php?f=11&t=5161&hilit=getrepositoryroot&start=20#p21800

The post I linked to there contains a debug version of deadlinecommand that you can test on your two machines to see if runs at the expected speed. Give it a try and let us know the results.

The 5.1 beta is now open, so if you’re interested in joining, see here for more details:

Hi Ryan
thanks for the update. I have run the .bat file and am enclosing the test results from the 2 machines. Thanks for the invite for the beta testing and I am definitely interested in participation. As mentioned in another post, I have totally 5 machines and my main requirement is single frame renders in 3DS Max for ArchViz projects. I am looking for solutions on Net Render to use the power of all the systems to provide high-res images to my clients.

Thanks for running that test. The timings look very good, so it really seems like this issue has been addressed at some point during 5.1’s development. I think I saw your request for the beta, so if someone hasn’t sent you the relevant info yet, I’m sure you should be receiving it soon.

Hi Ryan
thanks for the revert. Yes I received a communication for the beta access and will be participating in the same.

Best Regards,
