What are the reasons for a random user’s deadline monitor Submit menu button to be grayed out?
They reported to me that the command line submission was not working from maya (custom submit dialog in our pipeline) and so I decided to submit manually from the Monitor to debug. However in their monitor the Submit menu is grayed out (and so is Scripts). Changing users inside maya and logging into a different user on the machine had the same result of a grayed menu.
I reinstalled Deadline 5 and that did not help.
Thanks for any help.
Sounds like they have Satellite Mode enabled on their machine:

Turning this mode back off should fix the problem. The process to turn this feature on/off is covered in the docs linked to above.
Cheers,
I verified that he is not in this mode. Could it be another reason?
Weird. The only time the Submit and Scripts menus are grayed out is if there are no scripts to display under those menus. I wonder if it’s related to the reason they were having problems submitting with your custom submitter. Was there an error they would get when submitting with your custom submitter? Maybe it will help shed some light on the problem.
Also, could you take a screenshot of the Monitor and post it? Just curious to see if there are any other issues.
Thanks!
I’ve had this the odd once or twice over the years.
Either closing and re-opening the monitor or clicking on the “refresh” button, has always fixed it for me in the past.
Here’s a screenshot of his monitor. I’m going to check on his output to see if there’s any errors next.
So a bit of a further development: he some how still had 4.0 installed and that was launching. I launched 5.0 (and removed 4.0) and the submit is still grayed. Here’s that screen.
What happens if you select Tools -> Reload Icons for Scripts and Plugins? If they’re still grayed out, select Help -> Explore Log Folder and grab the most recent Monitor log and post it. If you think it contains sensitive data, you can email it to our ticket system at support@thinkboxsoftware.com. Hopefully it can explain the problem.
Oh, and another thing to check. If you right-click on the Launcher, there are usually Submit and Scripts menus there too that contain the same scripts. I’m curious to see if those are populated with the scripts or not.
Cheers,
Reloading icons for scripts/plugins had no effect. Neither did looking in the right-click menu of the Launcher. His last Monitor log is just a report of Monitor actions like Refresh, Explore Output, etc, so I don’t know that that is going to be of any help.

This is so weird…
Can the user browse to \your\repository\scripts\Submission from their machine?
I know! haha It’s really odd and I’ve never seen it before- figured when a reinstall didn’t work I should mention it here.
And holy crap, he doesn’t have permission to that folder (but can see the root repository). Actually he can see all of the repository except for maybe 2-3 folders… randomly. I have no idea how that could have happened as he’s no different than any of the other users in my Active Directory… I’ve checked permissions on that folder and nothing is set that would deny him, which furthers boggles me on this. It’s like his machine (because any user I log into under his machine is denied) is prevented from seeing it.
I realize this is probably more of an administrative thing from my network, but I’m stumped at the moment so any suggestions would be appreciated.
Sounds like the machine domain account is corrupt.
Ask your sys admin to remove this machine from your domain and re-create its account.
