Hi,
we have a new user that uses 3dsMax Design while our farm is running the “normal” 3dsMax version. In Deadline we made the Design 2014 Executable point to the normal 3dsMax 2014 one.
Isn’t this possible to do? The jobs he submits keps failing with this error;
Error in StartJob: 3dsmax: Failed to load max file: “C:/Users/3ds/AppData/Local/Thinkbox/Deadline6/slave/SRVKRS3D52/jobsData/breakingwire_rippleanim.max”
Network log file does not exist: C:\Users\3ds\AppData\Local\Autodesk\3dsMaxDesign\2014 - 64bit\ENU\Network\Max.log
at Deadline.Plugins.ScriptPlugin.StartJob(Job job, String& outMessage, AbortLevel& abortLevel)
Hello,
Unfortunately I believe Max itself will not allow the render of a Design file. Could you try to load a Design in the GUI of Max on one of your slaves and see if it will render? That would be a beginning to figuring it out. Thanks.
Cheers,
Dwight
The file renders fine in standard 3dsMax. I can open the file and submit it from my 3dsMax installation with no problems.
Hi,
Please can you supply the entire log report from Deadline. I would like to see this in better context. Can you confirm what exact version of Deadline you are running as well?
Thanks,
Mike
Hi, sure! Here’s the log file… We’re running Deadline 6.0.0.51561
deadline_log.txt (17.9 KB)
OK, looking at the log, you are using the Max2014 exe to try and render:
0: INFO: Rendering with executable: C:\Program Files\Autodesk\3ds Max 2014\3dsmax.exe
but it looks like you have “Use Design Edition” in the job properties enabled, which is trying to force it to use “Max Design” baed settings such as the file path location of the Max.log which is different for Max vs. Max Design, which is why you get these messages:
0: WARNING: 3dsmax ini file does not exist: C:\Users\3ds\AppData\Local\Autodesk\3dsMaxDesign\2014 - 64bit\ENU\3dsmax.ini
0: INFO: Network log file: C:\Users\3ds\AppData\Local\Autodesk\3dsMaxDesign\2014 - 64bit\ENU\Network\Max.log
So, try right-clicking on the job and setting the property “Use Design Edition = False” (under “3dsMax settings” > “Max Version Option”).
It can also be found in the 3dsMax monitor UI submission script as a checkbox: “Use Design Edition” when submitting jobs via the monitor.
Let us know if that helps?
Cheers,
Mike
Can’t believe I hadn’t noticed that setting… But yeah, it solved our problem. Thanks
