Support for crease edges

Hello Thinkbox,

Does XMesh support the export and import of data for crease edges? I checked the documentation and couldn’t find any information about it. If not, would it be possible to store this data as an additional channel? Any ideas on this topic are greatly appreciated.

Thank you,
Christian

No, currently we don’t support creased edges. I think it should be possible though, and I’ll add it to our wish list.

Do you have an urgent need for this?

Yes, we received assets from another vendor relying on creased edges for subdivision. If you could provide a quick solution, it would be great. Otherwise we have to implement our own solution to store the information parallel to the XMesh cache.

Do you only need crease information inside Maya? Or do you need it in 3ds Max too?

What’s your timeline like for this?

We need to transfer it into both direction. From Maya to 3ds Max and back.

I have to check on the timeline.

This topic popped up again today as we keep interchanging assets with other vendors. We can still work around it, but it would be really nice to have it natively implemented in XMesh.

Thank you,
Christian

Hello Ryan,

Today this issue popped up again and it becomes more pressing. Can you estimate when a new version of XMesh supporting creased edges will be available?

Thank you,
Christian

I think we could make a new version with support for crease edges within three weeks. Would that work for you?

Yeah, that would be great.

Hi Paul,

Just want to check in if you have an update on this topic.

Thank you,
Christian

Yes! I just sent you a private message on this forum.

Hi Paul,

Recently we rolled out the new XMesh version out to production. So far it works great and we didn’t encounter any issues. I will keep you updated and let you know if run into any issues.

Thanks again,
Christian
