Not really sure this is a bug, but I guess it's a workflow thing:
Normally I work with the Mental Ray renderer, but switching to Krakatoa via "Assign Renderer" then trying to switch back via "Switch to Previous Renderer" can't find Mental Ray, as it wasn't a saved Render Preset.
I assume this can't be done, as in order for it to toggle in the first place, Krakatoa needs to have saved the render preset to switch back to. Switching to Krakatoa via "Assign Renderer" will not allow it to do this:
"When switching from a different renderer to Krakatoa, a 3ds Max Render Preset with the current renderer's settings will be saved as "backup_pre_krakatoa_assignment.rps"
I can only suggest this may confuse a few people, as they may not understand why it's looking for a render preset.
I also noticed that the icon for the above toggle is missing from the wiki.

You shouldn’t be using the Assign Renderer option if you want to go back to the previous renderer.
There are two icons in the set of Macros - one Opens Krakatoa and if it is not the current renderer, ASSIGNS it and saves a preset with the last known renderer, the other REMOVES Krakatoa and switches back to the previously saved renderer.
We cannot save from Assign Renderer because that would require a #preRendererChange callback sitting there and watching you what renderer you are assigning. I COULD do that, just don’t know how stable it would be.
I will update the documentation (which is missing the Remove icon description anyway) and clarify that the Remove Krakatoa macro is meant as companion to the Open Krakatoa GUI.
The current text is
The MacroScripts provide the following functionality:
- Toggle Krakatoa Scripted GUI On/Off - this MacroScript turns the Krakatoa Floater on and off.
- If Krakatoa is the current renderer, the Floater will open and close when you press the button.
- Closing the Krakatoa GUI Floater with the [X] button will also uncheck the icon.
- Opening the Krakatoa GUI Floater via the Render Scene Dialog > Renderer tab > Open Scripted GUI button will check the icon.
- If Krakatoa is not the current renderer, it will also prompt you about switching from the current renderer to Krakatoa.
- When switching from a different renderer to Krakatoa, a 3ds Max Render Preset with the current renderer's settings will be saved as "backup_pre_krakatoa_assignment.rps"
- If Krakatoa is the current renderer, the Floater will open and close when you press the button.
The quote you posted is from this text and it should have been obvious that it is describing using the Macro to switch to Krakatoa.
I will change it to
:o)
Oh, it was obvious to me when I read it in the wiki. It was just confusing the first time using it the wrong way! :)
Thanks Bobo.
