Thinking Particles group

Can I use the particle group of Thinking Particles??
When I select TP by Particle Objects, I cannot see any diarog about group.
I want to use it!

thanks

Currently there is no way to choose thinkingParticles groups. However, this is on our wish list for future development.

Bobo posted a couple workarounds in this thread – either setting the Renderable property and saving the particles using Krakatoa, or set the scale of groups you want to hide to 0.

OK, Thank you!

I wonder if anyone has thoughts on the user interface for selecting thinkingParticles groups.

Should it share the same controls as the Particle Flow Events filter? Should they use the exact same list box, etc.? It feels like a bit of a grey area – they are different things, but they seem similar enough that you might expect to find them in the same place.

If they do belong in the same rollout, do you have any thoughts on what it should be called? It’s “Particle Flow Events” now, which would need to change. “Groups and Events”? “Group Selection”? “Group Filter”?

I would suggest a separate rollout which is disabled with TP is not installed on the machine (you could check whether Thinking is a valid class).
The controls could be similar or the same as for PFlow groups, but in general people using TP don’t touch PFlow, so putting the two in the same place would be annoying.

I hope Hristo Velev would chime in, he is a big TP Krak user, he may have some good insight.

I would agree with Bobo, I have both and I wouldn’t want it in the same rollout as PFlow.

It is “customary” that TP have its own group dialog, as this is standard across all other plugins.

Alright, thanks everyone. I’ll keep the existing “Particle Flow Events” rollout, and I’ll add a new “thinkingParticles Groups” rollout that will appear only when thinkingParticles is installed.

Please also make sure it is spelled “Thinking Particles”, not “thinkingParticles”. Other than “finalRender”, I think that’s the standard way of writing it

Hey Bobo, is this possible via maxscript? ie without having an object in the scene.

Krakatoa already does this for the TP rollout in the Explorers floater. The code looks something like
if Thinking != undefined do …

Haha great  LOL I was thinking/looking for isValidClass, thanks

It looks like cebas is renaming everything likeThis: http://www.cebas.com/index.php?pid=products, however everyone seems to spell it “Thinking Particles” in practice…
