Would it possible to integrate some kind of panel in Deadline 6 that shows thumbnails of frames at post render or which are currently rendering? this is a big request from our 3d team as we currently use Royal render ( we would ideally need the images to be a true colour representation of the image, as royal render doesnt seem to display the preview images unclamped/uncompressed which isnt the best when your trying to judge quite dark renders or particular colours etc.)
This is something we’ve considered in the past, and there is potential that we might explore this post 6.0.
What we had in Deadline 5 (and will be eventually moved into Deadline 6 as the beta continues) is the ability to set up to 3 different image viewer executables in the Monitor options. Then when right-clicking or double-clicking a completed task, it would automatically open the image in the preferred viewer. This allowed you to use the image viewer of your choice and all of its features.
Out of curiosity, do you know how RR shows a frame that’s currently in progress? Is it just loading the partial image from disk, or is RR streaming the incomplete image from the node to the monitoring application?
This is a feature I’d like to see too
I saw it used at another company (who switched to Deadline) but it was great for producers who could check the image on the web interface, I believe it was making a thumbnail of the rendered image
Hi Russell,
Sorry for late reply i’ve been away a week.
RR doesnt do any live update of the current rendering frame afaik it just does a kind of post frame process which makes a small jpeg thumbnail, then you can click on that to get a higher res jpeg of the frame. It’s quite hard to get a live connection to the framebuffer though and we are currently using arnold which only does an interactive view when exporting and rendering command line .ass files.
Thanks for the info. This sounds like something Draft could do, so we’ll log it as a feature request and will look into it.
Cheers,
- Ryan
