Viewing rendered images from Monitor?

Hi all, I was wondering if there was a way to access completed images directly from Deadline. Like if I right click on a completed frame to either go to it’s current location or to open the file.

I’m using Windows 7 and Deadline v5.2

Thanks!

Hi,
If you right-click the frame/task in the task list window of the job, you can view the image as well as copy its file path to the clipboard.
You can also go to the top menu system > options > user options…and configure how the double-click of the frame/task responds to your mouse click as well as configuring alternative image viewers as you wish. Finally, you can “explore output” to bring up a sessions of windows explorer to directly navigate to the render output. This “explore output” also handles multiple render outputs in the case of individually created render elements being saved to different locations. This “explore output” option is available on a job level or frame/task level.

Hi thanks for the info Mike. Unfortunately this only sheds partial light on what I am looking to do.

  • When I right click on a completed task I don’t see any option to open up the image in a viewer or to copy the location.

  • When I go to Tools > Options > Monitor Options I see sections for the double click and an area to establish a custom viewer. I have no custom viewers set and the “Preferred Image Viewer” is set to DefaultViewer. I’m unsure what the Default Viewer is. Regardless, when I double click on a completed task nothing happens. I’d like to set up Windows Photo Viewer as our default viewer for now. But I’m unsure where the executable for that is.

  • As for the “Explore Output” I don’t see that anywhere in the right-click menus for the tasks or jobs.

Again, thanks for the info. Hopefully you can shed a bit more light on this for me.

James

Hi James,

Not all jobs support the ability to view the rendered output through the Monitor. In some cases, we’re just not able to pull that information from the rendering software. If you can let us know a few things, we can figure out what the problem is:

  1. What software are you submitting jobs for (Maya, Max, Nuke, etc)
  2. Which renderer are you using, if applicable (mental ray, vray, etc)
  3. Are you submitting from within the application using an integrated script, or from the Submit menu in the Deadline Monitor
  4. Are there any other relevant submission settings are you using (ie: submitting layers as separate jobs in Maya, submitting write nodes as separate jobs in Nuke, etc)

Thanks!

Ah sorry, I forgot to provide that info. Here ya go:

  1. I’m submitting jobs for Modo (multiple versions but mostly 701)
  2. We’re using the Modo renderer.
  3. We are normally submitting via an integrated Modo script. However we can and do submit manually at times.
  4. At this time we are rendering out render passes from the same script to separate directories. i.e. Color pass > COL dir, Alpha > ALP dir, Depth > DEP dir.

I hope that helps and please let me know if there is any extra info that I can provide.

James

Thanks! That explains the problem, as we currently don’t support this feature for modo unless you’re overriding the output path in the submitter. We do have a feature request logged to support this when submitting from within modo, without overriding the output path, since in theory we should be able to pull the output locations from the modo scene.

Cheers,

  • Ryan

Thanks for the explanation Ryan. This feature would be extremely helpful in our pipeline. Is this the same for both versions 5 and 6?

James

Yes, this is the same for both versions 5 and 6. We currently have this feature targeting 6.1, so hopefully once the major 6.1 features are finished, we’ll have time to look into this.

Cheers,

  • Ryan
