in-app UI spinner for number of spawner slaves to start-up should be hard-wired to have a maximum value of 10 as this is a VRay license limitation by Chaos Group. 1 x VRay v2 GUI license gives you max. of 10 DBR licenses.
I have a couple initial questions:
- What if you have 2 VRay GUI licenses? Does your DBR license count go up to 20? If so, I don’t think we should be imposing a limitation then.
- Does the VRay DBR interface impose any sort of limitation like this? If not, that’s another reason I don’t think we should be limiting it ourselves.
Cheers,
Ryan
- Yep, you get 10 DBR licenses per 1 x GUI license, so you could in theory start doubling up here. However, as DBR requires you to execute the action from 1 MASTER machine, whether that be an artist workstation or headless rendernode, either can only pull a total of 1 GUI license; so in reality, you can only use a total of 10 licenses. Actually, thinking about it more, v3 decouples this further as you now need 1 x rendernode license for each 1 x DBR node, so in v3, you can now use more than 10 licenses.
- No, the interface doesn’t impose any limitation itself, the VRay licensing system mentioned above, handles this. You can have more machines listed than actually used in the VRay DBR UI.
I seem to have answered my own question! Leave it as it is! “If it’s not broken, don’t try…”
Thanks Mike!
