vray maya 2014 stalling

hello,

running maya 2014 and the stable build of vray that was released last month on deadline 6 .0.0.51561. mix on win 7 and centos / rhel 6.2.

recently we have been seeing instances of renders failing with the below error, but not actually registering it as an error, it simply sits rendering, never getting anywhere until you notice that renders that should have taken seconds have been ‘rendering’ for 10 - 15 mins.

0: STDOUT: [2013/Oct/15|23:00:13] V-Ray error: [VFBCore::SetRegion] Error writing render region to raw image file.
0: WARNING: Strict error checking on, ignoring the following unrecognized error or warning. If it is fatal, please email support@thinkboxsoftware.com with the error message.
0: STDOUT: Error: [VFBCore::SetRegion] Error writing render region to raw image file.

this can happen at 10% complete or at 100% complete and usuallly occurs in batches. so when rendering one frame per task, we will get 5 or 6 tasks that all generate this error. tasks before and after seem fine.

it doens’t seem like deadlines fault, maybe vray, maybe something else. has anyone ever seen this error or have any clue as to what the problem is?

many thanks

Hello Elliott,

Could I have you try to run that same job with MayaBatch turned off? I just want to see a bit more of the output that mayabatch hides. Thanks!

hi dwight,

i ran that same job without batch on and got the same errors. i think the issue has been resolved though.

essentially, i believe it was an issue with samba. we had an issue a while back that forced us to run a cron job every hour that restarted smb, to try and flush out dead processes and i forgot that the cron was still active. since turning it off, i’ve not seen the issue again.

all sorted!
