VRay Standalone errors when render on the AWS Cloud

Hi All! I use Deadline for rendering on the AWS Cloud. I use integrated 3ds max submitter to submit scene to render. But when spot fleet successfuly created (VRay Standalone EC2 spot instance), it can’t render my job and each EC2 spot instance in the fleet throws following error:

Hey Jane,

The following error seems to indicate that V-Ray is trying to launch a GUI. Since the render nodes are headless, this will definitely fail. My initial thought is that you have the V-Ray Frame Buffer enabled which has caused this GUI error.

Looking at the command line arguments this arguments seems to be the problem.

-displaySRGB=1

You likely need to disable the Frame Buffer when setting up your V-Ray scene settings.

I added following parameter -display=0.
My steps before EC2 spot instances start render my job:

  1. In the DeadlineMOnitor select job
  2. Right click on the selected job and choose “Modify job properties…” - open pop-up window “Job Properties”
  3. Select Vray Settings
  4. Add to the Command Line->Additional Arguments “-display=0”
  5. Click OK
    It solved my problem.

Hey cmoore,
I faced another problem related with VRay standalone.
My steps:

  1. Create AWS infrastructure in the Deadline Monitor (AWS Region - eu-central-1)
  2. Submit job to the DeadLine from the 3ds max 2018 using integrated submitter in the 3ds max
  3. Create Spot Fleet instances (for example -20)
  4. EC2 instances started rendering my job. First 20 frames rendered successfully.
    But then every EC2 instance from Spot fleet failed to render frames from my job and throw foolowing error:

FYI: I am not from Thinkbox staff.

Are you still having problems with the Chaos License server? I had some license issues around the same time (with local renders also), but none since. I think it may have just been some service problems at the Chaos License verification.
