Vred and Deadline AWS Portal

I was reading about the updated Deadline Vred Submission scripts here

https://aws.amazon.com/blogs/media/enhanced-autodesk-vred-render-scheduling-with-aws-thinkbox-deadli…

There is a paragraph about “Peak rendering with AWS”

Is Vred now supported with the Deadline AWS Portal? ie to upload scene files and download renders back to your computer automatically? I am assuming not but just wanted to check…

Thanks,

Richard

Ah nevermind, i found the supported AWS Portal software page in the Docs and answered my own question.

https://docs.thinkboxsoftware.com/products/deadline/10.3/1_User%20Manual/manual/aws-portal-supported…

Still not supported.

Thanks,

Richard

That blog really should call out that you can make your own AMI with these steps for AWS Portal if you want to run VRED jobs through it. It’s not too bad to set up, as long as you’ve installed VRED remotely before you should be okay.

The supported software page just means we make a machine image for that software.

Hi Justin,

Thanks for the reply. Hmm i was pretty sure we tried this back when the AWS Portal was first out but it would not actually work with Vred or other applications not officially supported by the AWS Portal as it would not send the scene files/textures to via the portal nor sync back the renders.

I might try it again.

We went the alternative solution of having a more full cloud backend and using spot even plugins etc. But i just wanted to know for a vanilla type setup if Vred would work with the Portal.

I will give it a try at somepoint just to re test and let you know.

Thanks,

Richard
