Where did my files render to?

An artist submitted a Modo job last night that’s supposed to be rendering out EXR files. Deadline says that it rendered the files, but they are missing from the directory where they are supposed to be. I’ve searched the logs in deadline and on the slaves but I can’t find any information as to an output path for the completed renders. Does this even exist?

Hello James,

Generally the logs should show the output path. If you can send over or attach the job report we can take a look.

Unfortunately the jobs got archived and I can’t find the job reports for them. I did look through the job reports but I only found the given output for the EXRs. But when we checked out the directories the files weren’t there. We tried to find out what happened. Did Modo fail to render? Were the files written out to some other location? We never did figure it out and the problem didn’t persist. Either way, I attached the text for a similar jobs output if you wanted to look for irregularities.

Hello,

There is no indication in the log of the output location, which tells me it might be defined in the files submitted with the job, instead of in the job as submitted to Deadline. Have you verified that this is not the case?

I think we figured out what happened to our renders. It seems that the Deadline launcher remembers your last used settings and the artist submitted his job outside of our normal workflow. He never changed the EXR file path and the files overwrote his last scene.

But to your question. When we render PNGs, we define the file path in the Modo render Outputs. When we render EXRs, I have a script that creates the file path then adds that path into the Optional Output Folder section in the Deadline launcher.

Ahh, well then I am glad to hear it all got worked out. Thank you for the info.
